Mini Review: TONY MOLY Peach Hand Cream.

IMG_3525

As cute as it gets!

The cuteness of this hand cream’s package is one of the things that got me interested in Asian Beauty in the first place. After doing the washing up I usually end up with really dry, rough hands and as I also play the guitar, my fingertips flake off thanks to the metal strings.

Whether you submit your hands through harshness or not, I really recommend this hand cream because it is quite thick, a little goes a long way and the smell…ah the smell!

Go get it! What are you waiting for?

TONY MOLY Appletox Peeling Gel Review!

May this be the Apple of Discord?

After trying out Tomatox and loving the results, I naturally looked for the next more similar product by Tony Moly. Appletox is not as raved about in beauty blogs and I couldn’t understand why.

Once I finally acquired it I noticed several things which made me pretty sceptical about this product. The first thing being, it made my eyes sting when i merely smelled it.

There’s some mea culpa as well. I used it before I had complete knowledge of a layering skincare routine. I trusted the first site I entered and following it’s instructions, I left the mask on my face for over 10 minutes.

It broke me out! I even tried it on my mum which has flawless skin and it broke her out a little bit as well.

However, I found out the trick, you have to apply a moderate amount (unlike the Tomatox, it is translucent on the skin), rub it in for 1-2 minutes, wait for 30-40 seconds and proceed to rub again. I like to wash and dry my hands before this final step. You’ll start seeing flakes coming off.

Comparing the size.
Nonetheless, I the stinging sensation in my eyes pushed me to do some further research and found the potential culprits:
  • Mineral oil!
  • Parabens!
  • BHT! (not sure what it is but according to this site, it’s not very safe)
  • Triethanol amine! (same as above)
I was very much disappointed. However if you still want to try this out (due to it’s overly cute package maybe?), there’s some positive aspects about it:
  • It leaves your skin very smooth after application.
  • It has a nice consistency and it’s easy to wash off.
  • It does remove dead skin cells! You may see the flakes of product + dead skin!
Look at the flakes on the basin! (Yucky but…for science!)
Anyway. I have really mixed feelings about this product and probably will not buy it again. I don’t quite like the ingredients but it has a good effect. I hope I come across a similar product with a less harmful list of ingredients.

HOLIKA HOLIKA Charcoal Egg Soap REVIEW!

Egg-celent!

Everyone is raving about activated charcoal soap. So why not pick up a product that combines charcoal + a really cute design + Asian goodness? (Could anyone ask for more?)

These little soaps (and by little I mean, they fit in my closed fist) claim to get rid of excess oil, purify and tighten your pores and avoid acne. Does it deliver? It does. After figuring out how to make foam out of this funny little thing, the lather feels incredibly smooth. Smoother than any other soap I’ve ever tried before to be honest. But it should not be underestimated! Although the lather is moist and soft, after scrubbing for only a few seconds and washing off, your face gets that “squeaky clean” effect which some love and some hate.

Yes. My face actually squeaked!

I recommend this soap only for those with combination or oily troubled skin, it may be too harsh on dry skins. I also recommend a good layering skincare routine after this as it can strip off your face of it’s natural oils! I use this periodically, only when my skin really needs it.

So, the verdict!

Pros:

  • Removes oil from skin efficiently.
  • Tightens pores.
  • Pleasant lather.
  • Seems to last despite small size.

Cons:

  • Can be too harsh on less oily skin types.
  • Cannot be used without proper moisture afterwards.
  • Maybe it’s because of the humid environment I live in but after a while it started oozing this sort of yellowish-golden oil. I rinsed it off however and carried on using it as usual.

My rating: 4.5/5

Tony Moly Pocket Bunny Sleek Mist REVIEW!

Cute yet powerful!

Buying things with adorable packaging always makes me think if the product is trying to compensate for the lack of quality of the formula.

For the Tony Moly Pocket Bunny Sleek Mist this is not the case!

When I first bought this my mother squeed in excitement. “How cute is that!” Well, indeed it’s cute AND it works pretty well! I have combination to oily skin which can be bothersome during the summer. This mist claims to control the excess oil while maintaining your face fresh and moisturised.

I like to use it the moment I step out of the shower for super absorption (a secret I learned from Melodee Morita’s vlog) and I keep it in my beach bag during the summer. It’s fine to use it even when you have makeup or sunscreen on!

Pros

  • Practical and cute. Perfect for carrying it around in your purse.
  • Enriched with fruit extract.
  • It does make effect quite quickly.
  • Fair amount (2.11 oz) .

Cons:

  • It contains alcohol!
  • The smell (I know this is very subjective) makes me think of baby products. As a 25-year-old woman I like my products to smell a bit more…adult?

Overall Rating: 4/5

Laneige BB Cushion [Whitening] SPF PA + 50+++ REVIEW!

Behold!

I’m a pretty recent Asian Beauty convert. When I first heard of BB Cushions I was fascinated yet sceptical. After watching many reviews online I went for the Lineage BB Cushion (the Whitening version in No.13 was the only one available at the moment).

The first thing you notice is the scent. It has a fresh mild fragrance that lingers for as long as it’s on. It is also very refreshing the first time you apply it.

I was doing my makeup for New Year’s Eve next to my cousin (who hasn’t discovered Asian Beauty yet) and her jaw dropped. She said it really evens out my complexion, covers my dark circles which go all the way around my eyes and has a dewy finish. I finish it off with cream blush and loose powder as I am not a huge fan of the super dewy look. I live in a very humid environment.

I am a firm believer thanks to my mum that less makeup means better skin. Therefore, I do not use this on a daily basis.

Pros:

  • Really evens out your skin tone! It’s amazing.
  • SPF PA+ 50+++
  • Lasts all day (or night) if untouched!
  • Comes with a refill!

Cons:

  • It is not kiss proof! If you’re going out and your face may be touching something or someone else, better keep the compact in your purse for a retouch!
  • It creases. I was crazy enough to apply this on my upper eyelids since I run out of primer and my dark circles were horrendous. So yeah.
This is the only BB Cushion I’ve tried so I can’t really compare it to any other cushion yet. Hopefully I’ll get me hands on more cushions soon! I’m pretty budget conscious when it comes to skincare and beauty but as soon as I finish using this one I’ll give others a try!

A Little Juniper

HOLY MOLY! It’s a review of TONYMOLY!

So, recently I made a purchase from one of the few local e-shops that offer Korean products: Plaza Corea. (Peru shipping only)

The shipping took a little longer than expected but I was pretty excited when the little package reached my doorstep. The products were in perfect condition and they included a nice range of sample products.

Da goodz.
I’m no K-beauty genius. I’m no beauty genius either. I’m a stressed out senior student who barely has time to sleep, let alone invest in beauty or skincare products. What I liked so much about TonyMoly was that their products were exquisitely presented (duh) yet simple. They go straight to the point. No fuss. No extra super mega waffle. It makes your skin look better. Full stop.

Here’s a little review of the 4 products I acquired:

1.TOMATOX Magic White Massage Pack

Ermagherd! This is some serious stuff. I have a mixed complexion and it did remove the excess oiliness from my T-zone, plus it smelled really freshly good. It wasn’t until I tried it on a close friend of mine (sounds like I experimented on someone) who has pretty oily skin that I went WHOA. Their skin went a shade…not “paler” but “brighter”, it was silk smooth, oil free and the pores were nowhere to be found.

I’ll regret this later.

After a night of drinking and dancing however, the effect slowly started to fade. They did not apply any other product besides from this mask, though. Dancing is a bit like working out and drinking is not all that healthy for your skin either so I guess it’s all about applying it in the right moment and repeat 2-3 times a week. I’m looking forward to the long term effects.

2. PANDA’S DREAM Brightening Eye Base

I kid thee not. I have serious dark oily circles not only under but all around my eyes. I hate wearing heavy makeup to conceal them. I have this feeling that it will take a downturn for the long term. The idea of a simple white fresh base to brighten up the area sounded a bit too good to be true. I was surprised. It really does it’s job. It’s not a 100% improvement but certainly a 50-60%. I assume it depends on the skin type and amount of oiliness around the area. I have to keep retouching but I regret nothing. Oh and the subtle smell!

Total Score: 3.5/5

3. BACKSTAGE Gel Eyeliner in Black

After centuries of trying. Finally, I can pull off the cat-eye look thanks to this eyeliner. It’s brush is really smooth and it lets you draw very thin or very thick lines. The pigmentation level is what you’d expect from a proper gel eyeliner and the packaging is super practical. I forgot once to apply any primer on my eyelids before doing my eyeliner and it stood on for quite a while, without smudging. I am really happy about this.

Total Score: 4.5/5

4. PETITE BUNNY Gloss Bar in Juicy Cherry

The chou-chou of lip glosses. I was not only attracted to this product due to it’s beautiful packaging but also because my general facial expression resembles the one of this particular bunny a lot. It has a very subtle fruity scent to it and it does have some mild pigmentation. It is perfect for everyday use and and other girls will just gather around and say how cute it is when you re apply it.

Total Score: 4.5/5

Hope this was helpful. Korean cosmetics are quite addictive, I must warn you. I’ve got another package with more products coming on including one of those cushion BB creams everyone’s talking about.

See you next time!
